i know of several beyond repair hearses that have little value in parts. and yes there are hearses older than 70's that are worthy of a derby as well even 59's. i would say strip what ever good parts you can off them before the derby and then have fun smashing them up. the drivetrain is nothing special in our coaches and rotted body panels have no value either. if your fixing up a beater hearse good for you keep it, however if its heading to the crusher have fun with it. all can't and wont be saved. i'm for restoring and saving what we can, i parted out collector cars in the past to get more money because parts are worth more than cars like my 2 spirit r/t's and my grand national but it all comes down to $$$$ and sometimes it makes since to let them go. hearses are no different, i spent way more than i should have fixing an 85 rwd i had finnaly i gave up and sold it now its someone elses problem, it would have been a good derby car indeed. i dont belittle peoples cars if your restoring one in bad shape good for you but if you find one in horrible shape without to many good points its only good for glass drivetrain and interior and trim parts since the drive train isn't anything special pull the good parts and have fun in the derby take pictures and have some drinks after the event to celibrate. you all dont know how fun it really is
